The 2011 Parade of Homes features new design ideas, the latest trends and green building

Home builders, homeowners and home-improvement novices Rejoice - the 2011 Parade of Homes is here. Running through June 11, the 21st annual event leads visitors through the best of what Kalamazoo-area builders have to offer - and a little beyond.


 

"We have houses all the way out to South Haven, a home south of Lawton, and we're all the way up in the Delton area, in addition to the homes in the Greater Kalamazoo area," says Faith Cervin, vice president of operations for the Home Builders Association of Greater Kalamazoo. "It's a huge area this year."
 
Indeed, this year's Parade Includes 32 new homes, remodeled seven entries and one landscaping project. That last is a feature Introduced in 2010 That Was and Was a big hit with visitors Parade.
 
"They really loved it, Because you got to see Ways That You Can transform your back yard," Cervin says.
 
Transformations are what visitors Can Expect at all of the entries remodeled. Each At home, Will visitors see new design ideas, the latest trends in green building and Possibilities, Cervin says.
 
"It is fun to go through the homes to find ideas Can you take and incorporate Into your own home," she says. That's in addition to builders the chance to meet in person.
 
Steve Roberts, owner of Roberts Development Group and Parade Committee co-chair, says he has hadd homes in the Parade for eight or nine years. This year he has homes in South Haven and Kalamazoo.
 
"The South Haven home is a custom home, Which is Typically what I do," he says. "(The homeowners) met with through a previous Parade."
 
Meeting the builder Can be great for larger projects, soft just simply seeing a home Can Benefit Those with a little design Savvy.
 
"Visitors Will find great ideas to Extend exterior living space to the landscape entry, and turn an outdoor space Into Their own private oasis," says Cervin, adding That ideas for boosting the curb appeal of a home Can Be found at any of the Parade homes.
